The Ruaathiat, meaning "Star of Fire" or "Star of Flame" as the tale tells (written by yours truly), is a gem of the star-born, and gives to the keeper an immortal life, though without it, and without the grace of the Valar, a mortal life would be lived instead.
Dhodrimme is half elven, but having given her immortality of her elven lineage in sacrifice to save another, her immortality depended on the gem itself, the gem of her mother, who had been born of the stars and came to dwell in the form of an elf, the pendant being her life source for immortality. And so the Ruaathiat also held the beauty of the stars within its very bindings, for it accompanied that soul creature of the stars.
With the pendant, Dhodrimme would have the choice to lay aside an immortal life by simply bestowing the gem to another for safe keeping, though the gem could only give immortality to those of star-born lineage.
However there is still a secret concerning the gem which has yet to be unlocked, and a mystery still lies behind its glimmering surface... -------
Personal Note:
The Ruaathiat is a gem I personally designed and created so to speak... I went through several designs before finally being satisfied with the current one you see in the banner of this Forum. One day I do plan to have the pendant replicated from the drawn designs.

It's incredible! Quite lovely! I had no idea that your name for this forum was so involved. lol. Do you have an actual whole story surrounding the Ruaathiat?

Yes indeed I do, though it is mostly a story concerning Silmarwen Idril, the name I used to have, until I changed it to something more original. If you're interested, the story begins here www.freewebs.com/silmarwenidril/mystory.htm and then after the change of name and appearance to the "true star-born form" the story continues here www.freewebs.com/dhodrimme/journalofdhodrimme.htm I am currently in the process of creating a history for the gem itself, but as of now my mind is blank, but when I do put something together, I shall be glad to share it with you and all the members here! Take care, Lady Dhodrimme Rualanna

How will you ever capture the light of a star? *shifty eyes*
Anyway, the story is appealing and it makes it up for the fact that this forum has an inspellable - though pretty - name. I too shall be looking forward to the story behind. Allow me to ask a silly question, what language is Ruaathiat?

*chuckles* It is derived from segments of elvish, from a fancified site that provides the meanings to names, and they give you guidlines on creating names with meanings...
