I think it would be interesting about the LotR books you've read. And I really mean the books -one or three books, how's the cover, pages?
My sister's copy of LotR is only one book. That's why it sounds strange when people talk about 'the Books'. For me it's only one book with three different books in it. It has soft covers, which is quite unpractical since it's not a very thin book.
The book was bought before the movies were released, but it has a picture of a black rider (from the movie) on the cover. It's black and blue, the moment when the black rider stands still in the mist and light comes from behind the hill, just before the Hobbits run to the Bucklebury ferry.
The pages are thin and the letters are tiny. I remember it took me almost five minutes to read one page when I first read the book. Something strange has happened to two pages. I always remember it was the part where Sam cooks rabbit in Ithilien.
893 pages, if you count the extras you get 981 pages. The text of the extras is teeny-weeny. If I put my finger on the text it covers five lines of the book, six of the extras.

*chuckles* That indeed is the exact replica of my first book, which my parents got me for Christmas, before the movies came out. It, however, became extremely beat up, and then I loaned it to a friend, and it kind of gave in to the constant wear and tear of it all, so she bought me a new book *smiles* Very sweet of her... I'll have to describe it later, since it is a bit different, but I must run along now...

Owh, we're... describing the... physical form of the books here? Let's see, mine are three paperback copies... two US editions and one is a UK edition. I just started reading FotR again. It's been too long since I read the trilogy and when I think of episodes that was included in the movies these scenes come to my mind.
*gets FotR* So the cover shows Frodo holding up Sting. The scene is from Rivendell when Bilbo gives it to him before the Fellowship sets out on the quest.. mission...thing. Hmm... I'm still impressed as to how much Elijah Wood actually looks like a hobbit.. or is it merely my mind that got so used to PJ's hobbits...? But he just looks so... de-humanized and hobbitized....
*cough* Anyway, I don't know if you can actually say I'm reading it, since I'm still on the prologue... But whenever I get time, and that will most likely be after my exam.

Let's see.... time for me to describe my newer one...
It's a soft bound, though an extra folding flap makes it more stiff. The cover is black and glossy with Sauron's hand, and the one ring on it. The title and the one ring are raised slightly from the surface.
On the back cover (black and glossy as well) at the top it sports a line of character pictures, from the movie, all the way across the extra folding flap as well. On the inside of both covers and flaps on either side, are maps of middle earth. The front extra flap holds a brief over view of what the book is about. The first page on the inside is black and glossy, with the poem thingy of "One ring to rule them all"
The rest of the pages are fairly normal in paper and letter size.... and the words, as we all know, draws us towards them and keeps us longing that we could meld with the pages and the story, to drift into another world of adventure, mystique, bravery, and honor...
1008 are the pages, 1137 counting the extra. And of course in the last few pages are the maps.... very helpful for RPG's *chuckles*
