Since LotR is about a journey more than anything else names and places become crucial in understanding the story. I'm looking for good maps of Middle-earth (and also of Valinor and Arda at the time of the Silmarillion) that could help me visualize the journey better. I don't think the maps in my book are satisfying, and I'm missing the general view of where different places more specifically are situated to each other. Please share if you have links to any sites or post the maps here!

*grins* I will post the link i always post to do with LotR trivia and things like it. It is a most useful site, and has all the information necessary for any ringer to do with almost every aspect of fact in the tales. *nods* yes indeed, the Encyclopedia of Arda is the best thing around. here is teh link to the home page: www.glyphweb.com/arda/default.asp to get maps up, on the left panel, in the top section, there is a link to 'maps and illustrations' click that, and pick the map or picture you are after. And whilst you are there, have a look around, it is very extensive. And bookmark it too, because it is very useful Hope that helps...

Thank you Darrell, but the times I used the maps on EoA I didn't find them satisfying for my picky and most demanding taste... I wanted something a little more detailed if possible. Anyway, I agree with you, the site is a great online resource.. possibly one of the best collections of Middle-earth information in one place!

Sorry you didn't find them detailed enough. As far as I am concerned some of them are the most detailed I have ever seen. I think you sort of, have to combine the wider area ones with the closer ones. *shrugs* I don't know, sorry it didn't really help.

Umm.. yeah, perhaps you are right... I must admit I did take a rather quick look around at the maps and left when I didn't find what i was looking for. Perhaps I should give them another chance. But as I mentioned I use the site mostly for the encyclopedia and didn't pay much attention to the maps... silly me.... Thank you again, Darrel

No problem. And I must admit that maps are not that sites strong point. it is better at all sorts of things^^ I would suggest somewhere else, but I wouldn't have a clue where else to point you, unless ... ah, the council of elrond as a rather nifty map. Hang on a sec, and I'll find the link *opens new window and search through the CoE* here it is: www.councilofelrond.com/map.php and a very good map it is too. And if you've already found/used it, or if it still isn't what you are after, then I'm sorry, I can't help you any further

*smiles and gasps for breath* No problem. I knew I'd seen another place with a quality map. And if you need something about LotR I will probably point you to either EoA or CoE. They have evrything between them.
