Mae govannen mellyn nîn. I was wondering if any of the members has knowledge of the Elvish languages, Sindarin and Quenya. It would be useful to know if anyone could share their expertise - or if we could somehow work out linguistic issues together. Come show off your knowledge here!!
[Dhodrimme, please move the thread if you find it is on the wrong board. I wasn't sure where to put it.]

*grins* It is in a good place right here for now.... Indeed it would be nice if we were to begin perhaps learning the basics of elvish. If only we had a professional teacher.... *chuckles*

Isn't it admirable that someone can invent his own languages? It shows Tolkien really loved his work.
Quenya and Sindarin are so different from English in pronunciation. And it's very funny to read the pronunciation instructions for English-speaking people, because I pronounce them exactly the way they are written.
Ónen i-Estel Edain. "Oh-nehn ee-ess-tell eh-dine."

English - and especially American English - is very different from.. anything!! I pronounce most Elvish the way it is written too, though I am still not fully sure of where to put the stress in certain words. I go with the common pronunciation pattern of putting the stress on the third to last syllable like Ga-LA-dri-el or the first syllable in short words; AR-wen. Quenya in particular was created to be a smooth language with an easy word flow so usually I try to find the flow in poems e.g. the Namarië poem and it works out fine.

I sort of treat it the same way, or similiar to Latin. Don't know too much about latin, but I know it is smooth and flowing.

White Wave or White Spirit.. very pretty, I like it Rotn. I think I tried the name generator thing on CoE, but I didn't like the outcome... Or at least not for the purposes I wanted. Sometimes I look for meaning, sometimes it has to look nice when written out and sometimes I want the name to be easy on the tongue!! And sometimes I'm just lazy and stuck with the habit... *points to username*
